YOUHR: Your Watch
YOUR + UHR (German word for watch) = YOUHR
YOUHR tells the story of a watchmaker, Roland Gloor, who journeyed over thirty years working in the workshops of some of the world’s finest watchmakers. Over the years, he has become an expert in the development, construction, and production of handcrafted timepieces. His vision of the watch with perfect lines evolved and refined. Rich of his skills, Roland Gloor presents his first creation.
Roland Gloor’s passion for watchmaking began during a dinner with Georges Daniels, a leading figure in the watchmaking world. The watchmaker gave him his famous book “Watchmaking”, which details how to build a watch, and invited him to visit his workshop. At the age of 17, Roland Gloor had just entered the world of watchmaking and would never leave it again.
After obtaining his diploma as a watchmaker rhabilleur, Roland Gloor began his career with Svend Andersen, a master watchmaker and specialist in creative artisanal watchmaking. From 1989 to 1994, he learned to restore the antique timepieces that adorn the Patek Philippe museum.
The young watchmaker continued is journey at Jaeger-LeCoultre as a trainer, then at Franck Muller in purchasing and logistics, before joining Blancpain in 1999 as technical manager. It was then that he met someone who would have a decisive influence on his future projects. Jacqueline Dimier, coming from Audemars Piguet, where she had been designing watches and fine jewellery for 25 years. Roland Gloor coordinates the work of the designers and the technical office, where he learns about project and development management. The watchmaking process no longer holds any secrets for him.
His path led him back to Svend Andersen before he launched his own independent watchmaking business in 2007. As a consultant, he put his knowledge and skills at the service of watch brands, advising, accompanying, and guiding them.
As the years went by, a crazy idea began to take shape: the birth of his brand, YOUHR, and the creation of a watch he’s never seen before.
YOUHR: The Watch
Throughout his career, Roland Gloor has admired the work of many watchmakers and been dazzled by admirable creations, developing an expert “horological eye”. But never has he spotted the model that, in his eyes, characterizes the perfect synthesis of balance and elegant lines. After more than three years of research and development, he finally presents his first creation, the YOUHR ONE.
Although he had a specific idea in mind, Roland Gloor asked Jacqueline Dimier to accompany him in the design of this extra-flat watch. This Grand Lady of the watchmaking world has proven her expertise time and time again. The sketches multiplied until the watchmaker’s vision was expressed on paper: his vision of a watch with perfect lines.
A watch that pays tribute to all the classic models that have marked the history of watchmaking. YOUHR has drawn inspiration from them to create a model with simple, refined codes and classic, timeless charm: a design that creates a bridge between the distinction of vintage watches and the efficiency of modern mechanics. A timepiece that expresses its uniqueness through its own codes and a strong identity that sets it apart from contemporary creations to convey a message of elegance and timelessness.
The hand-worked, fine guilloché dial features a unique decoration of intersecting lines that evolve with the light. The fine guilloché reveals a rendering of great lightness and sophistication. The dial is adorned with openworked dauphine hands, pointing to XL Arabic hour markers at 3, 9 and 12 o’clock.
At 6 o’clock, small seconds and the date appear in a window with a deliberately retro look, laser-sand-blasted and then treated with rhodium to create an effect of depth. The dial finish is enhanced by satin-brushed faces of the middle part of the case.
What’s more, the extra-flat case achieves a feat of craftsmanship and technical skill by integrating its lugs. In fact, this finish requires very precise handwork to preserve the sharp angles of the lugs. Finally, the added bezel further structures the watch by combining round and square geometries.
The sapphire case back reveals the extra-flat, self-winding Vaucher Manufacture movement, reference 5400, whose bridges have been designed by Roland Gloor to free up as much of the guilloché surface as possible and express YOUHR’s distinctive design. The bridges were hand-bevelled in the YOUHR workshop. The screw hole contours and edges have been outlined with a stop line, a YOUHR signature of sophistication. The 22-carat gold oscillating weight is also hand-bevelled.
The realization of this watch was a challenge requiring solid knowledge and skills to achieve the technical objective of ultra-flatness and the aesthetic objective of elegance. While the entire project was imagined and developed by YOUHR, Roland Gloor’s strength lies in his ability to surround himself with craftsmen with unrivalled skills and expertise, such as in the manufacture of the new movement parts and the guilloché decoration. The work of experts and enthusiasts to create the YOUHR ONE.
