Renaud and Tixier
Renaud and Tixier, the surnames of the eponymous founders of this unique luxury atelier which disguises a mad laboratory of haute horology.
The instersection of two careers is such a interesting juxtaposition of two unique talents collaborating to create unique horology.
Dominique Renaud
Dominique Renaud is legendary among those in watchmaking circles. Dominique is half of the prolific duo, Renaud & Papi (Giulio Papi). For many years this duo led a
superteam of young watchmakers, producing many special projects for Audemars Piguet. Now, years on, Dominique’s ideas continue to flourish and reamin vital.
Julien Tixier
A brilliant young watchmaker, with skills honed from unique experience in fine workshops. Julienne, has invested in a workshop full of vintage machines, the machines that enable his talents to
realize unique capabilities. Julien is a unique talent who can visualize, engage his machines in his workshop and realize almost any component with his hands and machines. A true artist come watchmaker.
Renaud & Tixier, Atelier
The project of Dominique and Julien realizing their ideas together is well thought out. Dominique and Julien have proposed to one another a series of seven watchmaking “problems” to be “solved” with unique calibres, becoming watches. Thus, the idea of the days of the week. “Monday” is their first collaboration. ….to be followed by the following days of the weeks until Sunday. After Sunday? The dossier is complete, a true collectors dream to know the story of a haue manufacture before they commit to a single watch!
Renaud & Tixier – “MONDAY”
The first project “Monday” is a unique project for the brand. “Monday” examines the potential weakness of a microrotor system, in a microrotor automatic winding system. Automatic winding systems were intitially designed to make wristwatches maximinally efficient. A watch is most efficient at the height of it’s wind. The idea of an automatic, if yo can wind the watch full and keep constant tension on the mainspring, the watch will always be in it’s peak efficiency. Microrotors were a system, adopted to offer a premium view of decorated dress calibre. Flash forward, Renaud and Tixier see a weakness in a microrotor system, shock. The primary “problem” to be solved with the “Monday” calibre is isolating the microrotor winding system from shocks, causing the system to deflect while winding.
The “dancer” is an auxiliary winding mechanism within the rotor. When the main rotor makes a small movement, it also rotates the “dancer” component, which fights against the weight due to an internal spring mechanism and flywheel. Eventually, that energy is released in a burst into the system, charging the mainspring. Renaud says that keeps the watch far more wound than previous micro-rotors.
Each Monday are produced by hand. The cases, of 18k white gold or 18k rose gold, are completley hand engraved on both case sides. Hand finishing is brilliant, highlighting this incredible mechanical architecture.
