Torsti Laine = Laine Watches

Laine Watches, Torsti Laine is a professional watchmaker who packed up his family and relocated to the heartland of watchmaking. In the small city of Le Locle, upon the Jura Mountains in Switzerland, Laine uses the tools of his trade and his ingrained expertise to handcraft award-winning watches. Laine recently received the Lange Watchmaking Excellence Award 2014, which offer the highest monetary award of any watchmaking competition in the world. A graduate of the prestigious Finnish School of Watchmaking, Laine has worked alongside the renowned Lange & Sohne in Germany and Voutilainen (Kari Voutilainen) in Switzerland.
“Laine GG – short from Gelidus/Guilloche – is the latest development from Laine Watches. It adds classic art of guilloche to the possibilities of dial options offered by the brand. Guilloche pattern in done by hand with old engine turning machine by a specialist artisan, while all parts and assembly of dial is done in-house. Light dances on the brilliant moiré pattern in fashinating ways, while applied indexes and long steel hands provide clarity.
Often guilloche dial surface is matted by bleaching the silver dial or silver brushing the brass dial. Untreated guilloche has unique shine to it, and after hearing about guilloche makers complaints about ‘dulling’ the cuts Laine desided to utilize this technic in it’s purest form – with dark colors on dials that would balance the increased shine. End result is stronger visual effect from pattern but still excellent readibility of time.
Movement is the same movement as in original Gelidus – with a twist – now both hardened steel bridges are painstakingly mirror polished.
In addition, screw and jewel sinks and bridge chamfers have been polished by hand. Black polish on screw heads.
Uniquely to this model, case sides are sculpted to an organic form and polished.
Each watch comes with a handcrafted alligator strap” -Torsti Laine November 12,2018

Laine Gelidus 2

Gelidus 2 is upgraded new version, featuring new case with AR coated sapphire crystals, new dial design and new hands.
The word ‘gelidus’ means ice-cold and frosty in Latin, a proper and fitting name for the sleekly styled watch as frosting is used as a decoration technique on movement side as well as on dial and on case. Bearing many similarities with the Laine Watches 1817 model, which is based on a 200-year old engraving decoration, the Gelidus 2 offers a streamlined design exuding craftsmanship and modern style.
The dial of the Gelidus 2 is made entirely in-house. The watch’s polished syringe style hands are crafted from steel. The Gelidus features the same two hardened steel bridges found in the 1817 model, but now the pieces feature a modernity in dimensional barrel bridge.
In addition, screw and jewel sinks and bridge chamfers have been polished by hand. Black polish on screw heads.
With the Gelidus 2, Laine intends to continue the company’s tradition of passing down bits of history and craftsmanship into each and every piece sold. Each piece is created not by machine, but by man, and the collections are made only in small batches.
Each watch comes with a handcrafted alligator strap.
